mini split services in Portland, OR

Every Portland, OR home needs a functional and efficient climate control system. Unfortunately, many older homes in the Pacific Northwest weren’t built with the HVAC ducting that’s necessary for supporting central heating and cooling. The good news is that you can get reliable delivery of heated and cooled air to every room with a ductless mini-split system. Read on to discover the benefits that a mini-split system can provide.

No Need to Retrofit Your Home With Ductwork

For homes that lack central ductwork, ductless mini-split systems offer an easy and affordable way to get whole-house heating and cooling. Paying to have a building retrofitted with HVAC air ducts post-construction is costly. It can also leave your home both looking and feeling significantly smaller. Although HVAC ductwork installers work hard to conceal much of the ducting that they put in, many retrofitting projects result in visible ducts throughout various areas of the building.

Exposed and uninsulated air ducts aren’t as efficient as ducting that’s installed during a home’s initial construction. In winter, much of the heat that your furnace produces could be lost through these features. In summer, your air conditioner might have to work harder than normal to both create and maintain the indoor temperature you want.

Ductless mini-split systems don’t require ducting at all. As a result, their installation process is far less invasive. There’s no cutting into drywall or removal of major structural elements. There’s also minimal drilling. Our team will only have to drill a single, three-inch hole in the exterior wall of each zone that will have its air handler.

We’ll divide your home into zones according to your household size, your needs, the layout of your property, and other factors. Each zone will have its air handler and thermostat, and you’ll be able to control each thermostat independently. We’ll pass refrigerant lines and tubing through the holes that we’ve drilled, and we’ll use these lines to connect all air handlers to a single, outdoor condenser.

At the exterior of the property, we’ll install a concrete or composite pad to support your ductless mini-split condenser. Ductless condensers are installed in back or side yards, and they’re given adequate clearance on all sides. The entire project can be completed within just a matter of hours. Best of all, your mini split will distribute heated and cooled air right where it’s produced. This eliminates the potential for energy losses with uninsulated and fully exposed ducting.

They Offer Superior Efficiency

The zoning provided by ductless mini-split systems allows for superior performance and efficiency. With a zoned system, you can selectively heat or cool the spaces you’re actively using, without wasting energy on rooms no one is in. Ductless mini splits also eliminate arguments about thermostat settings. Overly warm people can adjust the thermostats in their immediate areas to obtain more cooled air, and those who are already comfortable can raise their thermostat settings or simply turn their air handlers off.

They Ventilate Remote Areas of the Building

Much like central heating and cooling systems, ductless mini-split systems do far more than simply regulate indoor temperatures. Ductless mini splits also filter the indoor air, regulate humidity, and add ventilation to closed-off spaces. They are great additions for areas that may be sensitive to temperature swings, too.

They are also great for regulating temperature and humidity and ventilating areas that aren’t serviced by existing, central HVAC equipment. You can use a ductless mini split to turn your finished basement, home office, workout room, garden room, or attic bedroom into a space that’s both habitable and comfortable year-round.

They Increase the Value and Marketability of Your Property

Ductless mini-split air conditioners and heat pumps greatly enhance the marketability and value of properties that lack central AC. Whether your Portland home serves as your primary residence, a rental property, or a vacation property, you’ll find that this addition boosts its overall appeal. Ductless heat pumps and ACs use a highly efficient heat transfer process that’s appealing to consumers concerned about their carbon footprints, energy costs, and environmental impact.
